The Willow

Etching1850118x82mm[188x144mm]
Ref: Alexander 1 state ii/iii; Lister E1 state ii/iii

A fine rich proof on thin simili-Japan paper, probably printed by A.H.Palmer for his father in the mid to late 1870s. Handling creases in the outer margins, a light timestain where previously mounted otherwise in very good condition.

Proofs of The Willow are rare; frequently encountered are the posthumous impressions published in 1892, but early proofs from the 1850s and those printed after the installation of Palmer's Private Press in 1873 are seldom seen. Early proofs tend to be somewhat thin and silvery while later impressions are much richer often with a light veil of plate-tone.
